We love the Bible
We believe the Bible is the living word of God. It’s the pulsating heart of our group. So each week we open the Bible in small groups and public talks to see who Jesus is and why he matters.
We are a community of students committed to following Jesus and for others to connect with him, grow in him and stand for him!
Uni can be exciting but also overwhelming, and we believe Jesus brings clarity, hope, and purpose to it all. That’s why we meet together—to read the Bible, encourage one another, and share the good news of Jesus with our campus.

Uni life is better when it’s shared together. We connect over meals, socials, and everyday life—building friendships that encourage and support each other in our Christian faith.
We want the good news of Jesus to be heard across our campus. Through events, conversations, and invitations, we share the hope he offers to everyone.
Some of us study Nursing. Some of us study Commerce. Some of us study Graphic Design. Some of us are local and others are from a different part of the world! But what unites us is that we are all students seeking to know and love Jesus, fuelled by his word and Spirit, to reach our campus with the good news of Jesus. And we’d love to meet you!
Meet our people
At the Christian Union, we love Deakin. Whether you’re sceptical, curious, still figuring things out, or already all-in, you’re welcome here. And we believe the best way we can love Deakin is by inviting everyone to explore who Jesus is—the one who gives true freedom and lasting meaning to life.
The Christian Union has existed at the site in Burwood since 1957 when it was the Burwood Teachers’ College. Over the decades, there have been name changes with the Teachers’ College eventually merging to join Deakin University in 1991, with the Christian group’s name changing accordingly. However, at our core we have not changed.
We continue to be all on about Jesus–for Him to be proclaimed and known by students. Our doctrinal basis has not changed. We continue to be a community of friends, learners, and leaders — all seeking to make faith meaningful in uni life as we open the Bible together.
Our history
Our group is part of AFES, a national community of students discovering Jesus together. All AFES groups across Australia stand in the same grace of God, the same gospel of Christ. Being part of this wider community means we’re connected to other campus groups, supported by experienced staff, and able to be part of something bigger than ourselves.
